Chie Basco: A Personal Blog on Being an Entrepreneur, Employee and Everything Else on the Side

What’s in the BHAG?

BHAG (bee-hag) stands for Big Hairy Audacious Goal, coined by James Collins and Jerry Porras.  Big companies have formulated their respective BHAG to stimulate progress. Take Google, its BHAG is ‘organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful, or Microsoft’s:  ‘A computer in every desk and in every home,’ or Twitter’s:  ‘to become the pulse of the planet.’

How about you?  Have you thought of your own BHAG?  What is it?  For my colleague and I, it’s simple:  ‘A website for every Filipino business.’  We are taking small steps, and we started with the real estate industry.  Sounds familiar?  Of course, I thought instantly of my colleagues who are struggling to sell to the global market and yet do not have an avenue to do it.  Boom! for Real Estate is our first product, and we are aiming at many other industries who has a need for a website.

Incidentally, we got our company name from our inspiration, thus, www.bhagventures.com came about.  We are currently catering to local real estate practitioners, particularly those in our locality – Pampanga, Philippines.  There are a lot more in store for Boom! for Real Estate.  This is only the beginning of our ambitious goal, and what motivates us is that this very same BHAG just might be our gateway to retiring early.  I may not even be an employee for very long ;)

Hello world!

My very own domain…finally!   Let me tell you a bit of what I do – I’ve been into sales and marketing for quite some time, from 2002 to the present, particularly in the hospitality and IT industries.  A typical day for me would include phone calls, sales visits and online correspondence with clients.  Sometimes an 8-hour working day is not enough, not to mention of course the deadlines to meet and targets to reach.  This is my life – as an employee.

In 2007, I ventured into an online solutions business with colleagues from another company.  I was responsible for generating leads and acquiring projects for the group.  A new and exciting time for me, as I was working from home.  The following year, an opportunity with photography services came up, and I jumped right in – learning the ropes, but still primarily doing marketing for the team.  This is my life – as an entrepreneur.

In between, I became interested with blogging, thus this site.  Not to be left behind with technology, I signed up for free blog accounts, subscribed to RSS feeds of blogs that interest me, and explored the power of the different social networking sites.  You can follow me on Twitter, or add me up in Facebook.  Online marketing is a powerful strategy in our practice, and I would like to focus on content writing and SEO.  You could call me a novice, a newbie – and this is my life as a blogger / content writer.

I recently became a licensed real estate broker, and starting on project selling.  I believe a strong online presence is key in tapping the huge global market.  A colleague and I hope to come up with a useful system for brokers and developers alike.  The latest addition to my life – as a broker.

What’s in store for this space – professional opinions, insights, tips, daily observations and probably anything that I find useful in the practice of sales and marketing.  Enjoy ;)
